LasVegasVegas.com/pokerblog

This week, I have the honor of being a guest writer on http://www.lasvegasvegas.com/pokerblog/. After my recent trip to Vegas I penned the "Top nine ways you know you spent too long in Vegas after returning to work." Flip Chip though enough of it to make it this week's nine's list at LasVegasVegas.com. He and his son are wonderful and hard working guys. You should check their excellent site out if you have any interest at all in poker or Vegas.

A few other notes:
  • Everyone in my family agrees that my grandmother needs to go into assisted living except my grandmother. For the first time ever, I sat down with her and told her what she should do. That was hard. I just pray that some of it sinks in.
  • My uncle is very, very sick with cancer. He is facing a six or eight week routine of chemo and then surgery.
  • The award from my peers at work is great, but pales in importance to the two points above, but thanks anyway.

My Grandma wanted to die in her home. I made sure she did but she had enough money to pay for 24 hour care when it became too much for me.
it is heartbreaking, very sad to deal with. I just ended 8 years of my life doing it.

Hey there,

You've got a cool blog here.

I'm praying for your grandmother and uncle.

Hang in there!

Maybe if you didn't spend so much time hyping poker you could spend some time with your grandmother. Putting anyone in a nursing home is the ultimate version of selling them down the river. It is kind of sad that anyone can coldly dispose of their own relatives.

Spider63 is a moron and obviously knows nothing about assisted care or nursing homes! They are filled with wonderful people who care and very interesting and knowlegable seniors. Maybe Spider63 should quit kvetching and VOLUNTEER!!

When did I say that I don't spend time with my grandmother? Because of the location, I would be able to spend more time with her if she were in assisted living. Angry people like spider63 have their own issues. They don't bother me.

my nan is in the same situation. shes 86 and lived in her house for 53 years. She lost poppa 18 years ago and its been a steady decline since then. Strokes had wrecked an already fragile body but the mind remains firmly in tact. Still cant decide if this is a good thing. She hates being here but wont move out of a house that has become difficult for her to live in. She's the most strong willed woman i have ever met and it pains me to see her so physically reduced. but what can you do? its a crap situation.

I tried to leave a message on your "count your blessings" blog, but it wouldn't let me - maybe too many already there.

Just wanted to say that it is so nice to see someone counting their blessings. If more people would do that instead of focussing on the bad, our whole world would be totally different.

I pray that God will surround you and your family and shower you with His richest blessings. Keep the faith!
