Back from Jamaica

'Twas the last weekend before Christmas...

I got back from my business trip in Jamaica late on Friday night. I really didn't do anything outside of the hotel except for work. I had one night out for dinner at a local sports bar. That was all of three blocks from the hotel. On the way I saw a flock of americans eating at the local KFC. What a waste that is, going all the way to Jamaica and eating the same crap that you can get in any city in the US.

Since I didn't get out, I also didn't get any good pictures. I tried to take a couple from the cab, but that was pretty weak. So no picture posting from this trip.

Thanks to my wife, I'm pretty much ready for Christmas. All of the gifts that need to be sent have been sent and the rest have been bought and are ready for delivery. Some are wrapped and some are not.

There might be some poker this week. Bullits is trying to host a game on Christmas Eve Eve. We'll see if the joy of the season has spread to the spouses. I'll probably warm up with some pub poker on Wednesday night. 'Tis the season for poker, I guess. I'll post my reports.

Y'all have a good week.

I went to Jamaica once back in '03 and I enjoyed every minute down there. I had a hotel right on the beach in Nigril and we could walk on the streets where people were making and selling Jerk Chicken, Red Stripe, fruit fresh from the trees, and more. I can't believe anybody would not try to absorb the local culture, especially by going into a KFC. Oh well, sounds like you had a great time. Keep up the good work.

Do they have jerk chicken at KFC in Jamaica? I can't believe how cool and culturally aware everyone was who commented on your post. Who cares where other people were eating? How did you know they were Americans, just because they were white people in Jamaica? Or were they all wearing the American flag? Unless you were in the KFC with them....

Have you read the new novel about the MIT card counters? Take any photos?

Gosh, Mr. K, you went to Jamaica and didn't take any pictures? I haven't read your trip report yet, because I always look at the pictures first. I'll check back later.

Well welcome back from Jamaica! Also thanks for stumbling upon my blog! As for the KFC thing, hows about going to a very historic site in Rome and seeing fat americans pigging out on Mc Donalds! In ROME of all places to eat Mc Donalds! Well I guess some folks just need to comforts of home every so often. I tend to want to dive into the culture and try something new! Buts thats just my idea of travelling abroad!

I was in Equador building a non-denominational Christian kid's camp in the jungle. One of the loud-mouthed rednecks in our group, fed up with the food in his delicate tummy, cornered the cook and asked her if she knew how to cook any real food. I asked the goof where we were. I asked him what he thought her nationality was. Then I told him to shut up. I'm glad our cook didn't speak asshole, she didn't understand a word of what he said. KFC in Jamaica huh? I would have thought it would have been empty...

Funniest thing I know about Jamaica is all the Chinese "dreads". Yes, little chinese dreadlocked restaurant owners, chinese one side, carib on other. It's mddeningly funny.

LOL. You need a website. They have free hosting with some forum posts at http://mxweb.co.uk/forums

Maybe you should check it out because you are not getting many quality comments here, only people showing their blogs. Anyway, nice blog and good luck with it.
